I have decided to get off my fat ass and do a bit of writing this year! so here goes my Champix diary.  Champix is a drug perscribed to those to help them stop smoking.  I am not even sure if its illigal to write about a drug on a blog but as I have no money whatsoever sue me if you bloody want.  I am 43 years of age and have been a smoker since I was around 17 years of age or whatever age I was when Rocky the first movie came out.  Fiona Whity (rip) my best friend and her then boyfriend Colm and myself and a few others were at the flicks in Wexford and I took my first pull of a fag.  From there on in it was ‘ten Carolls and a box of matches’.  I did stop smoking in 2003 for a year and a half having been to an Alan Carr seminar at the Red Cow Hotel but then organised a corporate event for a Government agency and was back on the roll ups as quick as you could say ‘bastard pen pushers’.  Today I took my first Champix tablet.  The idea is that you continue to smoke whilst on the drug however there are a few side effects including:  Very common: Headache, difficulty sleeping, abnormal dreams, nausea.  Common side effects include:  Increased appitite, changes in the way things taste, dry mouth, sleepnesss, tiredness, dizzyness, vomiting, constipation, diarrhorea, feeling bloated, stomach discomfort, indigestion and farting!  Uncommon side effects include:  chest infection, discomfort or pain, inflammation of the sinuses, fever, feeling cold, feeling weak or unwell, viral infection, shortness of breath, cough, hoarseness, throat pain and irriation, congested sinuses, runny nose, snoring, loss of appetite (as if), feeling thirsty, increase weight, depression, anxiety, hallucinations, feeling of panic, difficulty thinking, mood swings, tremor, difficulty with coordination, difficulty with speech, less sensitive to touch, increased muscle tension, restlessness, hearth rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, disturbed vision, eyeball discolouration, eye pain, dilated pupils, shortsightedness, sensitivity to light, watery eyes, ringing in the ears, blood in vomit, irriated stomack and hearburn, abdominal pain. abnormal stools, red blood in stools, belching, mouth ulcers, pain in the gums, coated tongue, skin rash, cyst, fungal infection, reddering of hte skin, itching, acne, increased sweating, chest wall and rib pain, stiff joings, muscle spasms, clucose in urine, increased urine volume and frequency, increased menstrual flow, vaginal discharge, changes in sex drive or ability.  The rare side effect is stroke or heart attack.

I mean really is smoking that bad for you??? when you consider most of the side effects written above its probably better to stay smoking.

Anyhow I am determined to STOP, my cough is just terrible, I stink of cigarettes, my house stinks of cigarettes, my fingers are yellow, my lung pains me (yes I hate to admit this but its the truth), I have to stop for my own good.  I was at a party last night and when some of the smokers came in from the smoking area I could smell the stink of cigarettes on them and realised thats exactly how I smell when I have had a cigarette.  I am currently smoking Drum light which in a smokers term is suppose to be better for you as it has no chemicals etc but really its a pain in the arse trying to roll a ciggie in the rain and cold outside.

When I was off the cigarettes in the past I was a right pain in the arse, a very bad non smoker.  My sister rang me one night and I could hear her smoking at the other end of the phone and started roaring at her that she was a selfish bitch to be smoking in front of me lol.  God knows what I will be like this time but if my cough eases and my lungs improve I will be a happy camper.

Today is tablet No 1 which I took at 2pm this afternoon.  So far I have been a little hungry and have eaten two beef sandwiches and had a cry. (I am a big hungover aswell so that might account for the beef sandwiches!!)  I will try and write a daily diary on my struggle to give up the fags.

sorry for any spelling mistakes, not my strong point

Ten things that P***** me off in 2011

1)  The phrase ‘this call is being recorded for training and quality purposes’ when it actually is not!

2)  Being told via Radio and TV that we should ‘talk to your pharamaists’ and when you do they wont give you an antibiotic unless you have a perscription

3)  Being advised to call ‘low call numbers’ which cost a fortune

4)  Trying to cancel my Eircom dongle but even though the call is being recorded for training and quality purposes they still expect me to put it in writing!!

5)  Being charged 80 euro to have my teeth cleaned

6)  Having serious difficulty finding house insurance under 500 euro a year because I live in a ‘flood area’ even though I have NEVER been flooded in the 12 years I have lived in the house.  Also I am penalised for having a house over 100 years old and having a part flat roof.

7)  Being turned down for a low paid job with a well known Dublin Theatre company because I did not have enough ‘venue experience’ – for the job I had to book 8 shows a year.  In the past I usually booked over 1500 shows a year

8)  Taxi drivers who do not know where they are going and blowing the horn instead of getting off their ass and ringing the door bell and then not lifting my suitcase into the boot

9)  Pop up reminders on my computer very annoying

10) Hearing a noise on my roof and upon checking it out finding a ladder on my house with UPC guy on it messing around with my signal without my permission!!

I could go on but must try and chill now and try and remember 10 good things that happened last year!!
